Medication details

Description

Canesten 1% Cream is a topical antifungal medication used to treat thrush and other yeast infections. The active ingredient in Canesten 1% Cream is clotrimazole, a commonly used antifungal agent. The cream form of the medication allows for localized treatment directly at the site of infection, providing fast and effective relief from symptoms such as itching, burning, and discomfort. Canesten 1% Cream is easy to apply and can be used in conjunction with other treatments or medications. It is important to follow the instructions of a healthcare professional when using Canesten 1% Cream.

Directions

Before applying Canesten 1% Clotrimazole Cream, clean and dry the affected area thoroughly. Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected skin and surrounding area, gently rubbing it in until fully absorbed. Use the cream two to three times daily as directed, typically for 2 to 4 weeks, even if symptoms improve earlier, to prevent recurrence. Wash your hands after application to avoid spreading the infection. If symptoms persist or worsen after four weeks, consult a doctor for further advice.

Ingredients

The main active ingredient in Canesten 1% Cream is clotrimazole, which belongs to a group of medicines known as azoles. In addition to clotrimazole, the cream contains Benzyl alcohol, Polysorbate, Sorbitan stearate, Cetostearyl alcohol, Octyldodecanol, and Purified water.

Side Effects

Canesten 1% Clotrimazole Cream is generally well-tolerated, but some users may experience mild skin irritation, including redness, itching, burning, or dryness at the application site. In rare cases, rash, blistering, or peeling may occur. Severe allergic reactions, such as swelling, intense itching, or difficulty breathing, are uncommon but require immediate medical attention. If any unusual or persistent side effects occur, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.

Warnings

This cream is for external use only and should not be ingested or applied to the eyes, mouth, or open wounds. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or using other medications, consult a doctor before use. Avoid prolonged use without medical supervision, and if symptoms worsen or do not improve after four weeks, seek medical advice. Keep the cream out of reach of children, and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
